Downloading Data Results
Overview
All data leaving Quark's Trusted Research Environment is subject to a controlled download workflow. Researchers cannot directly download files from their workstations — instead, every download request must be submitted for review and approved by the Project Administrator or Data Access Committee (DAC) before the file can be retrieved.
This governance model ensures that data flow out of the TRE is monitored, audited, and compliant with the project's data security and protection standards.
Prerequisites
Before requesting a download, ensure you have:
- Completed your analysis within a workstation (see Dataset Analysis using Workstations) or retrieved results from a pipeline run (see Dataset Analysis using Pipelines).
- Saved your output files within the workstation environment so they are visible in the Results tab.
Requesting a File Download
Step 1: Locate Your Output Files
- Select Workstations from the Navigation Menu on the left.
- Click on the workstation that was used to run your analysis.
- In the right-hand pop-up pane, select the Results tab.
- Your output files will be listed in the Results table.

Step 2: Submit the Download Request
- In the Results tab, locate the output file you wish to download.
- Click the Download icon in the last column of the corresponding row.

- A notification will appear at the top of the screen confirming that your download request has been successfully sent to the Project Administrator for review.

Note: The file is not downloaded immediately. The request must first be reviewed and approved by the Project Administrator.
Tracking the Download Request Status
After submitting a download request, you can monitor its status through the My Requests section.
Viewing Request Status
- Select My Requests from the Navigation Menu on the left.
- Your submitted download request will be listed with its current status.
The following statuses may be displayed for file download requests:
| Status | Description |
|---|---|
| Pending Approval | The download request has been submitted and is awaiting review by the Project Administrator. |
| Approved | The download request has been approved. The file is now available for download. |
| Rejected | The download request has been declined by the Project Administrator. |
| Downloading | The file is currently being transferred to your local system. |
| Downloaded | The file has been successfully downloaded. |
| Download Failed | The download process encountered an error. |

Filtering and Searching Requests
The My Requests section provides tools to locate specific requests quickly:
- Status Filter — Filter by request status (e.g.,
Approved,Pending Approval,Rejected). - Type Filter — Filter by request type. Select
Downloadto view only download requests. - Date Filter — Filter by creation date using
Created Before,Created After, orCurrent Dateoptions. - Search Bar — Search for requests by name or keyword.
These filters can be combined to narrow results as needed.
Downloading the Approved File
Once your download request has been approved, you can retrieve the file.
Initiating the Download
- Select Workstations from the Navigation Menu on the left.
- Click on the workstation that was used to run your analysis.
- Navigate to the Results tab in the right-hand details pane.
- Click the Download icon next to the approved file.
- The download will initiate immediately.

Note: If the download does not begin, verify that the request status is
Approvedunder My Requests. If the status is stillPending Approval, the Project Administrator has not yet completed the review.
Understanding the Approval Workflow
The download approval workflow ensures that every file leaving the TRE has been reviewed for compliance with data governance policies. The typical workflow is as follows:
- Researcher submits a download request from the workstation's Results tab.
- Project Administrator receives a notification for the pending download request.
- Project Administrator reviews the request and either approves or rejects it.
- Researcher is notified of the decision. If approved, the researcher can download the file. If rejected, the researcher may contact the Project Administrator for clarification.
File Upload Workflow
In addition to downloading results, researchers may also upload files to their workstations. Uploaded files undergo a security review before they are transferred:
- The researcher uploads a file via the Data tab in the workstation details pane.
- The file status is set to Scanning while it undergoes a vulnerability scan and integrity check.
- Upon successful scanning, the status updates to Scan Success, and the file is submitted for Admin Approval.
- Once approved, the file is transferred to the workstation and the status updates to Uploaded.
Upload statuses can be tracked under My Requests in the Navigation Menu.
| Status | Description |
|---|---|
| Scanning | The file is being scanned for vulnerabilities and integrity checks. |
| Scan Success | The file has passed the scanning process. |
| Pending Approval | The file is awaiting approval from the Project Administrator. |
| Approved | The file upload has been approved. |
| Uploading | The file is being transferred to the workstation. |
| Uploaded | The file has been successfully uploaded to the workstation. |
Archived Requests
Completed and withdrawn requests are moved to the Archived section within My Requests. Archived requests include files with the following statuses:
- Approved — Requests that were successfully approved.
- Denied — Requests that were explicitly denied by the administrator.
- Request Withdrawn — Requests that were manually withdrawn by the researcher.
- Uploaded — Successfully uploaded files that no longer require action.
